island of baru

this island is located in the natural national park of rosario, just some few miles south of cartagena. we sailed during the day with my parents, pacho and lourdes, spent the night at a beautiful house in the bay of cholon and came back the next day. it was a wonderful short trip. dolphins sailed with us getting there, we eat crab and bought beautiful necklaces from the locals!!

around the old town

i have been to cartagena before, but this was esteban's first time. i was happy to show off one of the most beautiful cities in the country. he loved it. every street and corner is prettier than the other. an amazing city to discover, with excellent restaurants all around! my family went to cartagena to greet us. it was great to see all of them there and to show them puerto seguro actually anchored in the bay!!!!

cartagena

after clearing customs and immigration (which took an entire day) we enjoyed some club colombias around the old town. we happily eat a lot and recovered from the intense diet coming from jamaica.

tierra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cartagena de indias at last!!!!!!!!!!! after the tough crossing we safely reached cartagena, colombia. tierra bomba to be exact. quite a busy port and entrance.... the cartagena pilot contacted us through the radio and energetically called to us by the wrong name: "......... Puerto escondido, puerto escondido.... please MOVE from the port entrance.... a ship behind you is approaching and triying to enter......" as you can see from the pictures, the other boat clearly had right of way :) so we moved and entered through the beautiful bay which looked more amazing due to the afternoon sunset we had at the time of our arrival!

from port antonio to cartagena

the crossing was rough to say the least. we had 30 knots of wind every day for 5 days and the waves were pretty high.... we got wet because of the splash of the waves against the boat every 10 minutes....... so it was impossible to change clothes and keep dry.... the boat was rocking so heavy i was not able to cook, or i guess i could have but preferred not to, not to get sick... although i got sick nevertheless. we both got sick in fact. but we made it safely and after having done it we both agree it was a tremendous experience.

we definetly recomend it specially for the people that are considering joining a weight reduction program... instead of spending money in one of those weight programms.. just come sailing through this part of the world and i am sure they will losse the extra punds, we guarantee it! in our case it worked wonderfully!

good bye jamaica

or better, see you later jamaica! we loved it so much we will surely return. we reluctanly left the island but knew we had to get going to get away from hurricanes and to make it on time for our wedding in colombia. so we loaded the boat again and continued our trip south....

blue lagoon

the blue lagoon is an enchanting spot with blue deep water and a spring of fresh water and therefore fresh water gets mixed with the ocean creating a perfect temperature and a weird oily sensation in the water. it’s amazing! we went with the dinghy to swim and snorkel with our newly met french friends opel and clemance. apparently parts of the film the blue lagoon were filmed here... i am not surprised this spot looks like a piece of paradise!

navy island

this beautiful paradise is just a dinghy ride from the marina. how about that ah??? i guess it would be appropriate to say: .... $10 for the gas, a couple of thousand for the dinghy and engine... being in this paradise island exploring nature and simply relaxing... priceless :-)

we arrived on july 1 to the beautiful parish of portland in jamaica, precisely to the errol lflynn marina in port antonio. HEAVEN!!!! definitely one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. the marina is amazingly beautiful and the service and people are great. a place where we will certainly come back to, with more time to cruise everywhere.
